Introducing The Adventures Of Lil Chocolate Brown From H-Town
Hi there! My name is Lil Chocolate Brown, and I am from H-Town. To be honest, I am from the burbs of Houston, but like most folks born here, If you would ever ask me, I would tell you I am from Houston rather than explain where I was born. I have never seen or been in a building more than ten stories. Unlike my Mom and Dad from Brooklyn, I’ve never ridden a train or a bus. However, it’s all about the street creds. And, even I, a toddler, have a rep to protect on the playground. So, I say I am H-Town. I want to tell you a…

Can I keep it 100 with you guys?
Can I keep it 100 with you guys? Each day, I ask God to help me expand my vision to go beyond what I know as being familiar. Especially, since the personal word I heard from the Lord for 2017 was “No more, comfort zones!” This past weekend during Praise and Worship one of our team members got caught in the Spirit. Let me start off by telling you; she has the sweetest and purest soul you will ever experience and is just a joy to be around. Her getting caught “In the Spirit,” however, is not out of character when a song she is ministering begins to minister to…

God, Brought Me In Remembrance; I Know Five Women
God, brought me in remembrance of these truths earlier this morning during my time of worship and study. I hope it blesses someone as it blessed me. +++ I know five women that Man told them that they would NEVER be able to birth children… The first one had surgeries that removed part of her reproductive system. She recently gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. The second, her and spouse tried for eight years to conceive, but God surprised them, and they are expecting a little girl this summer. The third, the father was snipped, but God again thought otherwise and made his seed fertile again. My friend is…

The first man to ever break my heart name was Daddy
First, before I even get any further than the title of this piece; let me make it abundantly clear that I had a wonderful relationship with my father. He was very present in my life. I knew who he was, and he provided for me emotionally, mentally, physically (with his presence) and financially since before my birth and beyond my 21st year. However, he was human and so was born flawed. I lost my Dad suddenly a little over a month after turning 22, within a week of the one year anniversary of working at my first “big girl” job and moving into my first apartment. The day before he…

Who am I, she asked? I answered my name was Hannah. Pt. 2
I hear the driver’s side door slam. Somehow every sound seems as if it has been amplified and colors around me are in high-definition since I woke up this morning. Today I was released from the hospital and am all loaded up in my husband Oji’s car. As soon as Ms. Dot had wheeled me outside to meet him, he grabbed my suitcase and the tote I carried on my lap. I get up slowly to thank and hug her for motherly watching over me the last couple of days. She finally releases me to my husband’s care, giving him a few last-minute instructions, including in which the advice that…

Who am I, she asked? I answered my name was Hannah.
Thursday, June 18, 2015 I looked gingerly down at my cell phone at a text from my husband; he was informing me of the status of his arrival. “I am downstairs,” he said. I replied back, letting him know I was on my way. Ms. Dot and I took one more pass around the room to make sure nothing was left behind. “Do you have your phone charger?” she asked. “Yes, ma’am,” I replied. The room with its tiled floors and contemporary furnishings was reminiscent of a hotel suite, outside of the big white elephant in the middle of the room a hospital bed. My phone vibrated again informing me I had…

58! What!?!
The other day I plugged my numbers into a health app the estimated that because of my habits, health wise instead my current age of 38 I am behaving like someone that is 20 years older. I say no way, to that mess! My Uncle Ray I love him, I truly do. He is nearly 80 years old but looks like he is no older than maybe 60. He told me from as far back as I can remember to take care of my health; to watch what I ate and to exercise. I didn’t really take his advice during the last decade. I enjoyed myself and now have a work…

Almost two years till I am the BIG 40
Saturday, November 26, 2016 There are times when I sit alone and think; where has the time gone? What have I done with my life? Have I accomplished anything? Who and what am I living my life for? Then I looked at my calendar and realized its around that time of the month, and I am just a bit melodramatic. However, a week from tomorrow I turn 38. I am two years from 40, and I am truly not happy. I am not living my best life. I know this to be true, I am just cruising through life at times on autopilot. I have moments when I look in the…

It is not about the size; it is all about the fit.
It is not about the size; it is all about the fit. One size never really fits all. Everything requires a bit of customization. The latter statements can hold true for both relationships as well as with clothing. The other day I ordered a dress from a popular subscription website. At first, I was concerned about the size I had to order. The website said that the items ran small, so I upsized my size. When my dress arrived, it was gorgeous, and it fit me equally so. The next day I wore it to work and received some compliments. No one knew what size it was; they were complimenting…
