My Holiday Break Reading List
I posted the other day I’ve stockpiled books like a squirrel over the last year. Here is the list of books I am reading over the Christmas holiday break while I am off from work. I believe it’s important that I use this time to recharge and prepare for the new year and these titles speak to where I am in my process. Faithing It: Bringing Purpose Back to Your Life! by Cora Jakes Coleman The Power of I Am: Two Words That Will Change Your Life Today by Joel Osteen Fervent: A Woman’s Battle Plan to Serious, Specific and Strategic Prayer by Priscilla Shirer Overcoming Fear: Eliminating the Bondage of Fear by…

Back Porch Reading
This week I started something new. After realizing I had fallen a bit behind on my book reading schedule; I decided to designate the 1-2 hours before sundown to read outside on our back porch. I have found it is a fantastic way to end the day. Not only is it relaxing, but also it stimulates the creative sectors of my brain. Last night I finished reading the book “Accidental Pharisees: Avoiding Pride, Exclusivity, and the Other Dangers of Overzealous Faith” by Larry Osbourne and began digging deeper into “Overcoming Fear: Eliminating the Bondage of Fear” by my pastor, Dr. Creflo A. Dollar, Jr. The latter book, I picked up last…

Has He Already Given You The Answer?
As I shared at the end of last year here on the blog, there were 3 books I knew I needed to read at the time [please see “My 2013 Year-end Book Reading Schedule”]. I had hoped to finish them all before this New Year; however, that didn’t happen. I was able to finish one and make some decent progress in another before the 31st...

My 2013 Year-end Book Reading Schedule
With less than 3 weeks left before we close out 2013, I realize that I have about 5 books that I would like to finish reading before the New Year. There are three I absolutely want to finish. Here are my “Top 3”. “Accidental Pharisees: Avoiding Pride, Exclusivity, and the Other Dangers of Overzealous Faith” by Larry Osbourne This book is wrecking me from the core in a good way. Every so often a book comes across my path at a time when I have the desire to check my motives and intentions to why I serve in ministry and examine how I am serving. Right now I am at another…

It’s Your Time by Joel Osteen (In Progress Book Review)
This post is for my fellow bookworms. My current book of focus is by Joel Osteen and is entitled “It’s Your Time – Activate Your Faith, Achieve Your Dream, and Increase in God’s Favor”. I originally purchased the book shortly after it came out in 2009. Pastor Joel’s ministry is one of the ones I follow and receive regular communications from. His simple yet profound message of “Hope and Faith” resonates with my Spirit and so I have been following him and his wife Victoria since I first heard of them through my pastors, Dr. Creflo A. and Taffi L. Dollar. I am currently only a third of the way…

How Devoted to Your Devotionals are You?
Between you and me, I am honestly not that skilled when it comes to reading any of my faith based devotionals every day. For the last few years, I have purchased an annual devotional book by Joyce Meyer. This year’s book is “Trusting God Day by Day: 365 Daily Devotions” My practice is if I fall behind in my readings by a few days; I make it my business in one sitting to read and meditate on as many as I can grasp (with understanding) till the next time. I do the same with those I have subscribed to through YouVersion’s Bible App. I know that it is not ideal…

Why I have a Personal Attitude Adjustment Plan
A number of years ago, when I first began working in full time ministry I read a book by Dr. John C. Maxwell called “The Winning Attitude”. I was led to read the book because to be quite honest my attitude sucked. Many would be amazed to hear that it is actually hard for me to share my emotions. Yes, you can insert the shocked face here. Even with being a writer, in real world interactions with others it’s not that easy for me to be open and free. I don’t know at some point during my life journey I began putting up walls to protect myself from being emotionally…

“Right Heart. Right Attitude.” By Joyce Meyer is jacking me UP (in a good way)!
“Right Heart. Right Attitude.”; by Joyce Meyer is the book I am currently reading or should I say is reading me. I was introduced to the book after watching a series of episodes on the subject of “Attitudes” on Joyce Meyer’s “Enjoying Everyday Life” broadcast. Auntie Joyce’s (what I affectionately call her) program is one of the word-based ones I record on my DVR. I watch it and others during my devotional time. When I first watched the episodes, it was shortly after moving to Texas to live with my husband, Oji. We had lived nearly 9 months separately after getting married! We were/are in that delicate yet beautiful…

The Power of Who: You Already Know Everyone You Need to Know (Book Review)
The Power of Who: You Already Know Everyone You Need To Know by Bob Beaudine My rating: 5 of 5 stars I highly recommend this edition of “The Power of Who: You Already Know Everyone You Need To Know”. I purchased the audio book edition at Audible.com. It was recommended to me because of my previous purchases. This edition is narrated by the author Bob Beaudine. By using anecdotes Mr. Beaudine’s gives practical instruction on how to empower the people in your network and identify those that are your “Who”. View all my reviews
