My Funko Pop Rotation: How a Black Girl’s Office Shelf Tells a Story

My Funko Pop Rotation: How a Black Girl’s Office Shelf Tells a Story

For those who know me well, you know I’m a little bit geeky—with a whole lot of nostalgic soul. Since 2017, I’ve been collecting Funko Pops that reflect everything I loved growing up: Saturday morning cartoons, vintage comic books, Broadway dreams, and icons who shaped culture as much as they shaped my heart.

This week, I decided it was time to rotate my office display.

I lovingly packed up my Wakanda Forever collection—Black Panther and the crew held it down proudly since the movie was released—and began the joyful task of choosing the next lineup.
Was it going to be my Star Trek squad? (You know this Trekkie was tempted.) My 1960s Batman crew? Or maybe Prince, Ava, Biggie, and the legends that light up my creative life?

As I sat surrounded by all these miniatures of Black excellence, television triumphs, and comic book royalty, I realized—this isn’t just a collection. It’s a visual diary. A curated celebration of being a Gen X girl from Brooklyn with a love for the arts, Afrofuturism, and joyful Black representation.

Each figure has a story. Each shelf change feels like a season shift. And whether I’m channeling Spock’s logic or Simba’s courage, these Pops remind me that being a “Geek Chic” Black girl is a vibe… and a legacy.

Have a favorite I should feature next? Drop me a comment on my socials or share your own collectible joy. I know I’m not the only one with a shelf full of feels.Until next time,
Stay bold. Stay geeky. Stay you.
